Considering my well documented love of samples, travel sized products and basically anything beauty related in miniature form, it may surprise you to know that I have never subscribed to any beauty boxes. You’d think they would be perfect for someone like me, but I am extremely picky and the idea of having a bunch of random samples and sachets arriving at my door every month just gives me anxiety. Not only that, these days you can get a sample of just about anything from Sephora or any green beauty alternative (Credo, The Detox Market, Content Beauty) and most brands offer free samples when you order from them directly, so the idea of paying for samples (no matter how small the cost) just seems like a waste of money to me.
As I said on Instagram in my original post about Mintd Box, I get asked to test subscription boxes all the time but until now I have always said no. What really piqued my interest in Mintd is that it’s all about luxury and you get a curated mix of 4-5 full size and deluxe samples, which means no sachets or tiny single use tubes. You can either sign up for a monthly or bi-monthly subscription and even though it’s pricier than other boxes (£65), it’s well worth it as you’re saving around 50%. Mintd is a British company that just launched this month (they ship to the UK, W. Europe and the US) and the July Box (£128 value) included a great selection of products that I couldn’t wait to try. In this post I am going to be giving you my initial thoughts on every single product and letting you know which ones I liked and which one didn’t work for me.
Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Pullulan, Carbomer, Porphyridium Cruentum Extract, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Rosa Damascena Extract, Citronellol, Geraniol.
I have been a huge fan of REN for years so I was really excited to see this product in the box. This is a serum designed to instantly plump, firm and smooth the skin creating a lifted, tighter and therefore more youthful looking complexion. It also uses a “liquid matrix of Hyaluronans” to provide short term and long term results in regards to hydration and elastin synthesis. You use it after cleansing and before moisturizing and it has a lovely light gel texture that feels cooling and firming on the skin. It has a delicate rose scent from the Rosa Damascena oil and extract, which disappears once the product has absorbed and it does that very quickly. What I love about this is how incredibly soft and smooth my skin feels after I use it. It creates the perfect canvas for makeup and I think it would work really well as a primer. You can even apply it over makeup by gently patting it on until it’s absorbed and even though I haven’t tried that yet, I really want to just to see what it does. I’ll definitely be using this when I wear makeup and I’ll let you know more once I’ve had it a bit longer.
Ingredients: Water, Polysorbate 20, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Cucumber Extract, Marshmallow Root Extract, Oat Kernel Extract, Citric Acid, Poly Sorbate 20, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, Fragrance.
Cleansing wipes are like a dirty word in the beauty industry but the stunning makeup artist Lauren Napier (she’s worked Lady Gaga, Zoe Kravitz and Anne Hathaway) has created a chic, convenient and skin loving alternative that is a far cry from the controversial wipes you find in the drugstore. These wipes contain ingredients like aloe, cucumber, camomile and marshmallow and oat kernel to remove the day’s makeup, dirt and grime, while also soothing and hydrating the skin. They have a light, fresh scent and are perfectly sized and saturated so that you can cleanse your whole face without wasting any product or being left with a damp face. I keep a couple of these in my bag and I love how little space they take up and the fact that because they are individually wrapped they wont dry out. I used one this week after a long, hot, sweaty work day and it felt SO refreshing on the skin. Obviously these are not for daily use but I will definitely keep a couple in my bag and use them when travelling because they’re so handy and actually work really well.

I love a good sheet mask so finding these in the box made me very happy. I had never heard of Patchology before but really liked the sound of seeing results in just 5 minutes because right now I don’t have a lot of free time to properly pamper my skin. I opted to go with the Hydrate one first and it felt lovely – really cooling and refreshing and afterwards my skin was plump, soft and smooth. The mask fit very well and and because I only had to wear it for 5 minutes I didn’t feel restricted or had to worry about it sliding around my face. I’m going to try the Illuminate one next because it contains Licorice Extract, which is really brightening so I will keep you posted, but so far I really like these and I love the look of their new SmartMud masks.
Ingredients: coming soon.
EviDens is another brand I had never heard of before and while this cream was literally too rich for my combination skin, I was really happy for the introduction to the brand because their Brightening range sounds amazing. This cream would be perfect for those with dry/dehydrated skin because it is deeply nourishing yet non-oily and isn’t thick despite how rich it is. EviDens is a French and Japanese fusion skincare line that you can find in Harrods and they are definitely on the more luxurious side as the full size of this cream retails for over £200. Although this cream didn’t work for me I would definitely try more from the brand.
Ingredients: RICINUS COMMUNIS SEED OIL (RICINUS COMMUNIS (CASTOR) SEED OIL), CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, DICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, STEARALKONIUM BENTONITE, SILICA SILYLATE, PROPYLENE CARBONATE, SYNTHETIC FLUORPHLOGOPITE, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE, AROMA (FLAVOR), TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRA-DI-T-BUTYL HYDROXYHYDROCINNAMATE. May contain [+/‐]: CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE), CI 77491/77492/77499 (IRON OXIDES), CI 45410 (RED28 LAKE), CI 15985 (YELLOW 6 LAKE), CI 19140 (YELLOW 5 LAKE), CI 42090 (BLUE 1 LAKE), CI 15850 (RED6/ RED 7 LAKE).
Ellis Faas is a brand I have heard about for years but have had very little experience. I had a mascara from them a few years ago that I really liked but for some reason I never tried more from them, which is such a shame because they are such a beautiful brand. I am obsessed with the packaging of these lip products and the quality is incredible. They are so pigmented, smooth and feel really comfortable on the lips. They have excellent staying power yet don’t feel heavy and won’t leave your pout dry. I love that you can wear these glossy, matte, sheer or opaque and the sponge applicator makes it so easy to apply. As you can see from the picture, the colour is extremely bright and more “out there” than I’m used to but it looks lovely patted into the lips for a subtle wash of colour. I am currently eyeing the Pink Nude (L409) which is more “me” and love the look of their ‘Glow Up’ illuminating powders (here), too.
I am really impressed with the product selection in the July box and think Mintd have made an excellent debut in an already saturated subscription market. I was given a sneak peek of the goodies in the upcoming August box and I am so excited for you to see it, so stay tuned because I will be exclusively revealing one of the products very soon! You can learn more about Mintd Box and sign up to it here and don’t forget you get 10% off your first box with the code 10OFF1STDB.
