Mintd October Box Review

Even though I have had this beautiful box of goodies for a few weeks now, I have been working and travelling so much that I sadly haven’t had the chance to share my love for it until now. The funny thing about how busy I have been lately is that this box is the perfect antidote to that. This month’s theme is ‘Your Essential Beauty Sleep’ and it could not have come at a better time, since sleep has been as mythical as the Loch Ness Monster I failed to spot in Scotland last month. Mintd have yet again put together another thoughtfully curated selection of luxurious products and even though I say it every time, this is my favourite box so far. It is so ideal for this time of year, but more than just being a seasonal delight, it also resonates on a spiritual level because it perfectly caters to that inevitable downward shift in emotions we all can’t help but feel going into Autumn. This box is like a big, warm hug for your tired mind, skin and soul and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

Siskyn Organic Camellia and Safflower Hot Cloth Cleanser 100ml £32 (Full Size)

Ingredients: 100% certified organic ingredients. Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Oil, Camellia Sinensis (Camellia) Leaf Oil. May contain nut oil traces.

First up is this gorgeous cleansing oil made by the lovely Sarah and Emma, two sisters from Cornwall who grew up battling with their skin like so many of us. They struggled for years using products that didn’t help or made things worse, but all that changed thanks to Sarah’s discovery of the power of botanical oils on a trip to Australia. They launched Siskyn (such a great name) in 2012 after a decade of blending their own oils and realizing that what they were making at home was often much better than many of the luxury products they were buying.

I am a huge fan of cleansing oils so I was really happy to find this one in the box because it’s really lovely. It’s incredibly light and glides over the skin beautifully. It has an absolutely delicious all natural scent that is delicate and not at all overpowering. As you can see from the ingredients list above this cleanser is a simple yet luxurious mix of just eight organic plant oils that are deeply nourishing, healing and soothing. I have used this as a first cleanse a few times now and I love how it leaves my skin plump, glowing and hydrated. This doesn’t emulsify as it’s a pure oil blend, so I take one full pump and massage it in all over for a few minutes before gently removing with a wash cloth (it comes with an organic muslin cloth). The great thing about this oil is that you can actually use it in multiple ways. Because it’s got no fillers, silicones, preservatives or alcohol, you can use it as a body oil, hair treatment or even add it to your bath. It’s also essential oil free making it perfect for those with sensitive skin.

This brand has been a really exciting discovery for me because their story is something I can totally relate to as I went through something similar with my skin a few years ago (here). Siskyn have three lines – Luxe, Organic and Elixir and I absolutely love the sound of their Brightening Night Oil and Rosehip and Tamanu Body Oil. They also have cute travel kits, so check them out because this is another great brand I now know about thanks to Mintd. This is  a really gorgeous cleanser and I can see it becoming a staple as we head in to Winter.

OSKIA Bedtime Beauty Boost 15ml £23.40 (Travel Size)

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Dimethyl Sulfone (MSM), Glycerin, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil*, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Glyceryl Caprylate, Decyl Oleate, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Hellianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Aleurites Moluccana (Kukui) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rose Hip) Seed Oil, Niacinamide, Benzyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Dibehenate, Whey Protein, Tribehenin, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Malus Domestica Fruit Cell Culture, Lecithin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Parfum (Natural Fragrance), Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Citronellol**, Geraniol**, Linalool**, Glyceryl Behenate, Xanthan Gum, Tocopherol, Dehydroacetic Acid, Phenoxyethanol. * Organically Certified Ingredient. ** Component of natural essential oils. Natural Ingredients, store in a cool, dry, dark place.

My love for Oskia has been well documented on this blog (here) and they have been one of my favourite brands for years now. Despite that, I have never tried this product before and was so excited to get a super deluxe sample of it in this month’s box. I am generally not a fan of moisturizers, which is why I didn’t bother to try this one, but what a mistake that was. This is easily one of the best nighttime moisturizers I have ever used and I am officially obsessed.

As with everything from Oskia this is a beautiful and potent blend of skin loving ingredients like MSM, Niacinamide, Vitamin A (from Rosehip Oil), Omegas 3, 6 and 9 and Hyaluronic Acid, that all work together to nourish, protect and regenerate the skin overnight. The texture is beautifully rich yet lightweight and is non-greasy and absorbs easily. The scent is the brand’s gorgeous signature rose-lychee blend and I love taking a few seconds to breathe it in when I apply it. I used this for the first time in Scotland and loved how my skin looked the next morning and was so surprised at how well my skin responded to a moisturizer, because usually it hates them.

What makes this moisturizer a “boost” for your skin is that it does so much more than simply provide hydration. It plumps and smoothes fine lines and wrinkles, improves cell health, aids the natural repair process AND helps lighten and prevent hyperpigmentation. As I have combination skin I don’t usually need a product like this, but because of the season I am more on the dry side and I will be using this a lot more over the next few months. If you’re on the hunt for a night moisturizer I highly recommend this one and you can pick up the full size here.

EviDens Eye Recovery Serum 2.5ml £30.78 (Travel Size)

Ingredients: Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Squalane, Triethylhexanoin, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Neopentyl Glycol Dicaprate, 1,2-hexanediol, Dimethicone, Glyceryl Stearate/peg-100 Stearate, Glycosyl Trehalose, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Behenyl Alcohol, Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate, Polysorbate 60, Stearic Acid, Aqua (Water)*, Sodium Pca, Sodium Lactate, Phenylalanine, Histidine, Isoleucine, Threonine, Arginine, Aspartic Acid, Pca, Proline, Valine, Glycine, Alanine, Serine, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Morus Alba Root Extract, Alcohol, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Soluble Collagen, Pentasodium Pentetate, Ubiquinone, Sodium Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Ppg-4-ceteth-20, Hydrogenated Orange Roughy Oil, Tocopherol, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Natto Gum, Algin, Sodium Hyaluronate. *eau De La Foux, Côte D’azur, France.

Even though I didn’t get on with the brand’s The Rich Cream that came in the very first Mintd box back in July (review), I was still keen to try more from them. EviDens is a French and Japanese fusion skincare line that you can find in Harrods and the brand is on the super luxe side with the price tag to match. At first I thought the size of this eye cream was ridiculously tiny, but when I found out that the 15ml full size retails for a whopping £185 I was grateful for every drop I got.

Finding a good eye product is something I struggle with because my eye area is pretty sensitive, but this was actually really nice. It felt light and cooling when I applied it and didn’t cause my eyes to water or feel irritated. It is billed as a high-tech “nano-emulsion” that works to improve the appearance fine lines and wrinkles, as well as erase dark circles. It’s too early to note any results, but I’m happy to continue using it and see how it goes.

I think like most people, my eyes are the first thing that give away how tired I am (or my unbrushed hair) and having a great product that can really give the area some much needed “pep” can make all the difference. I’m glad I got to try something else from EviDens and I’m looking forward to seeing what this serum can do for my currently very tired eyes.

Whitehorn Ruby Lavender Filled Silk Eye Mask £28

Ingredients: Silk, Velvet, Lavender and 100% British hand dyed.

Staying on the topic of eyes, I thought I would talk about this stunning silk eye mask from award winning textile designer Janey Whitehorn next because sleep is crucial for not only great skin, but great health. I have used eye masks on and off for years and really like how they help me achieve a deeper sleep by blocking out any distracting light. This mask is easily one of the most beautiful ones you could use, as it’s a mix of silk and velvet, hand dyed and filled with either the relaxing scent of rose or lavender. This has become an important part of my nighttime sleep routine and I have even taken it with me on all my recents trips because I love it that much. It fits comfortably across my eyes, stays on all night and the scent helps to lull me off in to a relaxed, deep sleep.

In this technology overloaded world it can not only be hard for us to switch off from our devices, but also not succumb to the detrimental effects they have on our sleep. In a recent study on this modern day phenomena, scientists found that those who use their devices before bed “took longer to fall asleep, felt less sleepy at night and had shorter REM sleep”. They also secreted less of the sleep regulating hormone melatonin and also felt less alert the next day. I am definitely someone who has done this far too often and using this mask has been so helpful by signaling to my mind and body that it’s time for bed and has also helped me fall asleep quicker and stay asleep for longer. I am so glad Mintd included this in the box because beauty is very much related to our health and getting a good night’s sleep is one of the best things we can do to improve it.

Wildheart Organics Tranquil Travel Candle 90g £12

Ingredients: N/A.

Autumn and Winter are definitely prime candle burning seasons and this one is such a beauty. I am a total candle addict and love burning them all year round, but in particular, I adore the cosiness they create when it’s cold outside. Wildheart Organics are a new to me brand that I am so happy to have discovered because I absolutely love their ethos. Founded by “wellness seeker” Emma Holt, everything the company makes is focused on enhancing our mood and wellbeing, and I think that’s something everyone could benefit from in this fast paced world. Emma is creating true aromatherapy candles using the very best natural ingredients and that was immediately obvious as soon as the box arrived. Even before I opened the package I could smell the candle and it just made the whole thing smell absolutely beautiful.

As I travel a lot for work I am a huge fan of small candles that I can take with me to help create a sense of “home” wherever I am and this one has been away with me twice now. Along with the eye mask, it has become an integral part of my new nighttime routine, because it fills the room with the calming and soothing scent of 12 100% natural and pure essential oils like lavender, neroli, sandlewood, orange blossom and chamomile. I’ve only had to light it a few times for “atmospheric” purposes because it’s incredibly potent and I couldn’t be happier for the introduction to this brand. They have some truly gorgeous sounding blends and their stunning gift boxes (here) would make the perfect gift, so check them out because everything looks just beautiful.

Aromatherapy Associates Perfect Partners 2x 7.5ml £19 (Travel Size)

Ingredients: Relax – cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, vetiveria zizanoides (vetivert) root oil, pogostemon cablin (patchouli) oil, parfum**, fusanus spicatus (australian sandalwood) oil, ormenis multicaulis (wild camomile) oil, anthemis nobilis (camomile roman) flower oil, benzyl salicylate*, benzyl benzoate*, geraniol*, linalool*, farnesol*, limonene*. Revive – cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) oil, citrus grandis (grapefruit) oil, citrus nobilis (mandarin) oil, citrus dulcis (sweet orange) oil, eucalyptus globulus (eucalyptus) oil, melaleuca cajuputi (cajuput) oil, parfum (pure essential oils), pinus sylvestris (pine) oil, juniperus communis (juniper) oil, pelargonium capitatum (geranium) oil, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, geraniol*, linalool*, limonene*, citronellol*, farnesol*.

Having a bath is a luxury I have not had the time for in far too long. I always tell myself at the end of an exhausting week that I’ll relax, read a book, have a bath and go to bed early, but it never happens. I usually end up working more, scrolling through Instagram or watching repeats of the The Walking Dead (so excited for it’s return!) until I crawl in to bed at some ridiculous hour. Finding these in this month’s box was a much welcomed surprise, because they got me excited about taking some time out to finally have that bath I had been promising myself.

Aromatherapy Associates was founded by modern aromatherapy pioneers Geraldine Howard and Sue Beechey back in the 80’s and since then the brand has become a British institution, synonymous with everything of self-care, wellbeing and mindfulness is all about. These two little gems are the perfect way to discover what’s so great about this heritage brand and after just one use of each, I am in love with them all over again.

I used Deep Relax first because that’s what I needed the most and it is beautiful. The scent is a rich, intoxicating and heady mix of vetiver, patchouli, camomile and sandlewood and I could have happily slept in the bath all night, just to be enveloped in the aroma. Morning baths are quite a rare occurrence for me but last weekend I made the time for one and it was well worth it. Revive is a light and refreshing blend of oils like grapefuit, rosemary, mandarin, peppermint and juniper. It’s hard to pick a favourite, but I especially loved Relax because I had such a good night’s sleep after using it. These oils are something special and I will definitely be picking up more.

Even though this month’s box was billed as a “beauty sleep” kit, it was so much more than that. It helped me to relax, slow down, take time for myself and remember the importance of good health and wellbeing and it’s impact on our skin. How good we look is definitely linked to how good we feel and sleep is a key part to feeling our best. Without it we approach the world through a washed out filter and can’t be the best versions of ourselves. This box wasn’t just a promotional gimmick, it was the gift of self-care through a great night’s sleep and I can’t thank Mintd enough for it.

As you can see, this was a fantastic box with an incredible value (£145 for just £65) and because of that it has already sold out! With a 55% saving for this amazing selection of products, it was well worth it and I am so happy that so many of you agreed and snapped it up. I have been so impressed with the Mintd boxes every single month and if you want to learn more about you can read my previous reviews here, here and here. It is such an exceptional subscription service and next month’s box is just around the corner, so if you haven’t subscribed yet (here), now’s your chance because you are not going to want to miss out again.

    1. Thanks for reading Jennifer! 🙂 Yes, it was such a good box, which is why it sold out but the products themselves are still great and at least you can get those. My fave from the bunch was definitely the moisturizer, so check that out if you can!
