MINTD Box October 17 Review

This box is a cozy night in dream and to have it during my favourite month makes it even better. I love this time of year because the weather starts to cool down, the night’s get longer and of course, the beautiful colour changes in nature just make the transition from summer to autumn so much more enjoyable. This is also when I really notice how long the year has been and suddenly I find myself feeling exhausted and craving cozy night’s in. The start of Autumn is my time to slow down, relax more and just recharge from everything that has happened over the previous nine months (and hasn’t it been a lot?!), so this month’s MINTD Box has been perfect for me.

The theme is Beauty Sleep and that is exactly what I have been needing. It is packed full of everything you could need for the most luxurious bedtime routine and I have already finished one of the products! Because of the theme there is a mix of skincare, bath and body products as well as bedroom accessories and all the products compliment each other so well. Beside being incredible for personal use, I think this box would make an amazing gift for anyone you know who could use a little more “me time”, which at the moment I think is all of us. Plus, this month is one of the best boxes in term’s of value because you are saving a massive £101. I’m writing this after the loveliest bath with one of the products in the box, so let’s get started before I fall asleep!

Omorovicza Midnight Radiance Mask 15ml £27

I’m starting with this product because I think it is my favourite from the box. I had already been using it for a few weeks before I got the box because I have the full size, but I was SO happy to get the mini because I love these for travelling with. Omorovicza are a brand I have loved and used for a long time and this new launch has really worked well for me. I have combination skin that leans towards dryness, but it is also prone to breakouts, so the fact that this is designed treat spots while also hydrating skin has been a dream for me.

Overnight masks are a concept I like (NIOD VM for example) even though I don’t often use them in a full routine. I love them on night’s when I am too tired for more than a couple of steps or just don’t have the time and this is perfect for that. It does everything my skin needs and it’s just one product like help heal and minimize breakouts, tackle hyperpigmentation and boost hydration making it the easiest do-it-all nighttime product that I have. It contains black willow bark extract and salicylic acid to exfoliate and treat acne, hyaluronic acid and red algae to increase hydration, as well as sand lily to help improve discolouration. There’s also healing copper gluconate, cell membrane forming lipids and the brand’s signature thermal water base.

The mask has a lovely light and cooling gel texture that feels like a tall glass of water for the skin. The scent is quite fresh and floral, but not too heavy and I am in love with the pale blue colour (all natural). I take a decent amount and give my face a quick massage to make sure I get even coverage. It doesn’t exactly “set” right away (well, not with how much I use), but it shouldn’t end up all over your pillow either. You only need to use this 2-3 times a week, so this sample will last quite a long time.

I have used this a lot lately because there have been many a late night when all I have had the energy to do is cleanse, maybe spritz/tone and then apply one more product and it has usually been this. Despite not using multiple products I always wake up to normal, balanced and calm skin, which is more than I deserve considering how I have been neglecting my skin. If you have combination skin then this is such a great product to try, but if you suffer from breakouts or pigmentation and don’t want to use strong products then give this a try because it’s very gentle but still effective. I will have a review on my favourite Omorovicza products soon and this will definitely be on it.

Aromatherapy Associates Light Relax Bath & Shower Oil 55ml £45

Ingredients: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Cananga Odorata (Ylang Ylang) Flower Oil, Parfum**, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Leaf/Twig Oil, Vetiveria Zizanoides (Vetivert) Root Oil, Benzyl Salicylate*, Benzyl Benzoate*, Geraniol*, Linalool*, Limonene*, Coumarin* *Natural Essential Oil Contents **Natural Plant Extracts.

Next I have to talk about this product because I just used it and now it’s sadly all gone! Last October’s box included two mini bath and body oils (here) that I absolutely loved, so I was very happy to receive a full size of a different scent this time. Aromatherapy Associates completely get it when it comes to relaxing in the most indulgent and luxurious way and this oil is the perfect example of that. I felt very pampered with this product in my bath and that feel good vibe helped me to relax physically and mentally.

I am usually not that big a fan of “aromatherapy” type scents because lavender, petitgrain and ylang ylang aren’t my favourite, but in this oil they work so well together. I think the addition of bitter orange and vetiver really elevates the mix and I looked forward to using this partly because of how relaxing and calming it was. Scent is definitely a personal thing, so be warned that this is pretty strong and does linger, but for me I actually like that. It helps me fall asleep faster and I think it also improves the quality of sleep I have because I’m already so relaxed by the time my head hits the pillow.

This gorgeous product is more of a splurge item, but if it’s in your budget then I highly recommend it. I finished mine quicker than I should have because aside from using more than recommended, I also had my mum and sister use it and they loved it too. This bottle should last you 20 uses, so if you take a bath once a week then that’s 5 months worth of pampering, relaxing and indulging.

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil 15ml £45

Ingredients: Persea Gratissima (Extra Virgin, Cold Pressed Avocado) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Organic, Cold Pressed Concord Grape) Seed Oil, Rubus Fruticosus (Cold Pressed Blackberry) Seed Oil, Salvia Hispanica (Cold Pressed Chia) Oil, Dimethyl Isosorbide (and) Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, Chamomila Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Oil, Tanacetum annuum (Blue Tansy) oil, Anthemis nobilis (English Chamomile) oil, Eriocephalus punctualatus (Cape Chamomile) oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Neroli) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Blood Orange) oil, Cananga Odorata Flower (Ylang Ylang) Oil, Vetivera zizanoides (Vetiver) oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil (and) Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, CI 61565 (Green 6), CI 60725 (Violet 2).

This product is my one slight disappoint in the box and only because when I first used it (back in 2015) I didn’t see any results. Saying that, I am actually happy to have it again because I want to give it another go and see if my skin responds any differently and that’s what I have been doing ever since the box arrived. I usually use a retinol/retinoid product 2-3 times a week, so on those nights I have been using Luna on half my face and then a comparable product from The Ordinary on the other.

I remember when this first launched and I, along with everyone else, was so excited about it, mostly because of Caroline Hirons (now changed) review. The original post was so exciting because she raved about Luna as being an overnight miracle worker and I guess I expected a lot based on that. I used it for about a month every day I think and I didn’t see any real difference to my skin at all. Caroline said she saw results after one night and I wanted to see the same, but sadly I didn’t.

Beyond that, the other things that disappointed me about this product at the time was the inclusion of dyes to enhance the natural colour of Blue Tansy, the non-air tight packaging and the scent. The concept of this was everything I was looking for at the time though, but it didn’t seem to quite translate in the way I hoped and I ended up moving on before I had even finished my bottle and I regret that. I wish I had tried the product for longer, so that’s what I am doing this time.

My original review of this product is on Instagram (here) because it was before I had a blog, so you can check that out, but I feel like most people are familiar with this product thanks to the big hype around it. It definitely has mixed reviews with some seeing no results like me and others saying it has worked wonders for them, so all I can say is get a sample and try it for yourself. I want to use this for a full three months before I make my final decision on it, so once that time has passed I will update this post with my thoughts.

Neom Organics Tranquillity Scented Travel Candle £16

Ingredients: blend of 19 of the purest possible essential oils including; English Lavender Sweet Basil Jasmine.

This candle is part of the brand’s “Scent to Sleep” range, so you can see how it would work perfectly with the bath oil. I lit this while in the bath and then took it in the bedroom so the scent could fill my room before I slept and I feel like it makes such a difference in helping me unwind before bed. As I said before, aromatherapy scents aren’t my favourite, but this one isn’t bad at all. It’s a lovely mix of lavender, sweet basil and jasmine and I think for this time of year and right before bed, it works. Neom is brand I had had a few candles from in the past thanks to Victoria Health and I think I prefer their more fresh scents, but again for the purpose of sleep this works great.

The brand currently has a very cute and timely #HappytobeBoring campaign and there’s a lovely set to go with it (here) that was curated by Founder and Creative Director Nicola. Not only that, the Christmas collection (here) is absolutely stunning, so if a candle to help you sleep isn’t what you’re looking for then check those out because I have my eye on a few already and Halloween is still a few weeks away!

Supermood Beauty Sleep Sweet Pillow Scent 30ml £33

Ingredients: Alcohol denat, Aqua (Water), Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender), Vetiveria zizanioides (Vetiver),Salvia sclarea (Clary sage), Citrus sinensis (Orange).

This lovely product completes the trio of products that are all about helping you to destress, relax and sleep well in a big way. Like the bath oil and candle, this pillow spray is perfect for this time of year and together they just make for the most restful sleep you could hope for in these crazy times. I fell in love with Supermood thanks to the excellent mask that came in the July box (here) and this is one of the nicest pillow sprays I have tried. This is the type of product that I always feel is more of a gimmick then actually useful, but with this I actually felt a difference, especially along with the other two products. I love spritzing my pillow with this before bed because I feel like it works like a signal to my mind and body that it’s time to sleep and that is something I really need right now.

Supermood have a pretty extensive Beauty Sleep range that includes chocolate (yum), supplements, a silk pillow and a complete nighttime routine. The pillow spray is meant to work along with these products to calm and soothe the mind for a more restful and rejuvenating sleep. After finishing this article I will spray this on my pillow to complete the bedtime ritual that this box has created and I can’t wait. Again, this has lavender, but it’s not too strong in my opinion as well as vetiver, clary sage and orange. I really like this mix because I find it less “heady” than say the bath oil or candle and I love the subtleness of it. If you find aromatherapy scents too strong then this is a great alternative.

Overall I really enjoyed the cozy night in vibes that this box has created. It’s not easy to make the time to relax and take time out for yourself these days and I think when it’s presented to you in this way it seems like too good a treat to pass up, which is exactly how it got me. I initially thought I would be too busy to use the products, but I have found myself making the time for every single one and I think that’s how these things work, once you start it becomes a habit and I have been loving the calm ritual of it all. The box has made me be more mindful and meditative a couple of times a week and that is something I very much need and appreciate.

You can read more about the box here and there is free shipping on your first box with the code WELCOME17. You also get a free Su Man’s Velvet Skin Moisturisng Cream  worth £85 when you subscribe to the 6 or 12 month plan, plus there is now the cutest Gift Store on the site where you can buy an increduble ‘Mum To Be Retreat’ box packed full of some of my favourite brands as well as Christmas sets from Omorovicza, Aromatherapy Associates and de Mamiel. This edit and the Gift Store have got me in the holiday mood and now I can’t wait to see what’s going to be in the next boxes!
