MINTD Box April 18 Review

Spring is finally here and I could not be happier. Even though the weather hasn’t quite got the memo yet (edit: the past two days have been amazing!), the fact that it’s now still light at 6pm has made all the difference. I feel like I am ready to come out of hibernation and this month’s beautiful MINTD Box selection is helping me do exactly that. The theme for April is ‘Pause & Unwind’ and this is one of the most mindful and relaxing edits I think they have ever done. The wonder team have put together four full size luxuriously pampering products from some of my favourite brands and I cannot wait to tell you more about them.

African Botanics Marula Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish £60

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Carica Papaya (Papaya) Extract, Ananas Sativus (Pineapple) Fruit Extract, Pumice (Volcanic Minerals), Glycerin, Agathosma Betulina (Buchu) Leaf Powder*, Corn Starch, Acrylates, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Seed Oil*, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Fruit Powder*, Aloe Ferox (Bitter Aloe) Leaf Extract, Lactobionic Acid, Citrus Bergamia (Bergamot) Essential Oil, Athrospira Platensis (Spirulina) Micro-Algae Extract, Pelargonium Graveolens (Cape Rose Geranium) Essential Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Kigelia Africana Fruit Extract*, Aspalathus Linearis (Green Rooibos Tea) Extract, Cyclopia Genistoides (Honeybush) Extract. *Organic & Wild-Harvested Ingredients. 100% Vegan. Never tested on animals.

I have to start with this product because it’s one of my favourite exfoliators from a brand I have been a big fan of for many years now. African Botanics are a brand that take mixing luxury and science to the next level. Pretty much every single product they make is jam packed full of interesting and innovative ingredients and this is a prime example of their commitment to elevated inci lists and excellent formulas. I have been using this ever since it launched and it is one of only just a few physical exfoliators I have in my stash.

As I said the ingredients in this product are pretty special. It includes some of my favourite exfoliants like lactobionic acid (PHA) which is very gentle but still effective, papaya and pineapple fruit extracts for their excellent exfoliating enzymes and refined volcanic pumice granules for a thorough but not at all too abrasive physical exfoliation. It also contains the brands signature marula oil as well as aloe vera, baobab fruit, green rooibos tea and micro-algae for their powerful healing and soothing properties. These ingredients also help reduce the chance of irritation because they work to protect and calm the skin while it clears away the dead skin cells.

I like to use this every two weeks or so and I love how soft, smooth and bright it leaves my skin. It has a light gel texture that feels cooling on the skin and the all natural scent is deliciously fruity. I am generally not a fan of physical exfoliators, but because of the enzymes in this I can leave it on as a mask for 5-10 minutes and then get the benefits of the pumice when I rinse it off. This way I feel like I get the best of all the ingredients and my mildly sensitive skin isn’t irritated at all. I have also mixed this with their lovely Oxygenated Cleanser for a quick and gentle exfoliating morning cleanse and I love the results.

If you find traditional acids too strong or irritating for your skin then something like this with fruit enzymes are a great option because they work to clear, brighten and smooth the skin, but are far more gentle. This would work well for almost all skin types (those who are very sensitive would have to be careful of the pumice) and I highly recommend it. I love that I can use this multiple ways and I always notice an immediate difference when I use it, which to me makes it well worth the price.

Siskyn Organic Frankincense & Jasmine Night Facial Oil £46

Ingredients: Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Linum Usitatissimum (Flax) Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Borago Officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Oil, Triticum Vulgare (Wheatgerm) Oil, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Seed Oil, Camellia Sinensis (Camellia) Leaf Oil, Calendula Officinalis (Calendula) Flower Oil, Santalum Album (Sandalwood), Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Flower extract, Helichrysum Angustifolium (Helichrysum) Oil, Boswellia Carterii (Frankincense) Oil, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Pogostemon Cablin (Patchouli) Oil, Benzyl Alcohol*, Eugenol*, Geraniol*, Farnesol*, Linalool*, Benzyl Benzoate*, Benzyl Cinnamate*, Limonene*, Citral* * Naturally occurring in essential oils. May contain nut oil traces.

I first discovered this lovely little botanical brand when they were featured in the October 2016 and December 2016 boxes and I am so happy to have this beautiful oil again. I used up my first bottle during the winter and early spring of 2017 and since then the brand has gone from strength to strength, winning multiple awards and being featured in Vogue. You can read my original thoughts on the oil here, but I will add that since using up a whole bottle I can safely say this oil is lush, nourishing and has the most gorgeous scent. It feels somewhat viscous without being too heavy and leaves my skin feeling silky soft and perfectly moisturized. This is a great product for autumn/winter and would be excellent for those with very dry skin. Siskyn are a great brand for those who love oils (they know their stuff) and you can read more about them here.

Omorovicza Rose Quartz Facial Roller £55

Ingredients: N/A

I was SO happy when I saw this new tool from Omorovicza in the box because I am a huge fan of at-home facial massages. I use my jade roller as often as I can and absolutely love how it feels and how my skin looks after I use it. If you’re new to facial massage/rolling then you are in for a treat. This ancient beauty ritual will increase lymphatic drainage (toxin elimination), stimulate collagen production, boost circulation, de-puff and smooth the skin and help exercise the facial muscles to increase elasticity and firmness.

Not only that, the cooling sensation of the stone on the skin feels so soothing and relaxing at the end of a long day. I love the idea of having a roller in rose quartz because this stone has been known for it’s healing and stress reducing properties for centuries. It is supposed to promote a calming and peaceful energy making it perfect to use before bed or as part of a self-care Sunday spa routine. I love to use this with an oil (Omorovicza have a beautiful one) or sheet mask and after just a few minutes I feel relaxed and my skin is plump and glowing.

I can already tell this is going to be a staple in my routines from now on and the only thing to be aware of is sometimes these tools can be stiff and squeaky when you first use them. If a little oil doesn’t fix that then get a new one because the rolling part is important in order to see the full benefits of the tool. Both my rollers were too stiff when I first got them and had to be exchanged (my rose quartz replacement finally arrived yesterday, thankfully), but now they work perfectly and I couldn’t love them more.

Aromatherapy Associates Perfect Partners £21

Ingredients: Relax – cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, vetiveria zizanoides (vetivert) root oil, pogostemon cablin (patchouli) oil, parfum**, fusanus spicatus (australian sandalwood) oil, ormenis multicaulis (wild camomile) oil, anthemis nobilis (camomile roman) flower oil, benzyl salicylate*, benzyl benzoate*, geraniol*, linalool*, farnesol*, limonene*. Revive – cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) oil, citrus grandis (grapefruit) oil, citrus nobilis (mandarin) oil, citrus dulcis (sweet orange) oil, eucalyptus globulus (eucalyptus) oil, melaleuca cajuputi (cajuput) oil, parfum (pure essential oils), pinus sylvestris (pine) oil, juniperus communis (juniper) oil, pelargonium capitatum (geranium) oil, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, geraniol*, linalool*, limonene*, citronellol*, farnesol*.

Last but certainly not least is a duo from a brand I am always happy to see included in the MINTD edits. Aromatherapy Associates are legends of the industry when it comes to their bath and body products and these two oils are among the best they make. I wrote about them more when I reviewed the October 2016 box (here) and nothing has changed since then – I still adore these just as much and I have already had a sneaky bath with the Relax oil.

I will add that these are perfect for travelling with or as a little “pick me up” gift. I actually bought some for a few family members last Christmas as stocking stuffers and they went down a treat. Even though they are minis they are still luxurious and indulgent, and now I am torn between saving these for future trips or pampering myself with them now. If you haven’t tried anything from this brand yet you are seriously missing out. MINTD actually have a couple of their beautiful Christmas sets on sale in their Gift Store (here) with free worldwide delivery, so check that out if you have this box and already want more.

This month’s edit was a pretty special one that went beyond just including a mix of great products. They all complemented each other and I actually used them all in the same routine. After having the loveliest bath with the Aromatherapy Associates bath oil I exfoliated with the African Botanics Polish, applied the Siskyn oil and massaged my face with the Omorovicza roller. It was a blissful routine and perfectly reflected the box’s theme.

As always this box is exceptional value for money with the total value being £182 and the price only £70. You can read more about the box here and subscribe here. MINTD still have the Omorovicza Oxygen Booster (£50) free gift when you sign up for the 6 or 12 month plans, so if you’ve been thinking about joining then now is a great time.
